I am waaaaay behind on my home organization plan! Needless to say all of my travels this summer have prevented me from getting everything done. I have made a few steps forward though. One thing that I have done this summer is start relining all of my kitchen cabinets with what I believe is the best way to line the inside of cabinets and drawers!
This is how I have lined every kitchen and bathroom cabinet since I first became a homeowner way back when. However, when we moved into this house we simply did not have the time. We moved in two weeks before Christmas, and since we were blending two families our number one priority was to get everyone, comfortable, and ready to celebrate Christmas. We did that well – we even got the outdoor Christmas lights hung on the house and our Christmas cards in the mail. It was busy to say the least, and the cabinet shelves just did not get lined.
Since I am now taking everything out of my cabinets in an effort to purge and organize, it is now time to get ‘er done.
The best way to line kitchen cabinets?
Is to line them with Peel and Stick Vinyl Tiles! Yes, this takes a bit more time, effort, and money – but you will only do it once! I have had it last 15+ years – the longest that I ever lived in one place. And it never gets beat up, torn, or yucky looking.
To help cut down on the cost – I head to the clearance aisle of my local home store and see what they have. They have always had something that I am happy to use. This time I picked up brown wood parquet tiles and got busy working.
First peel out the old contact adhesive liner and wash down the shelving.
You will need a utility knife, a straight edge to help you cut it straight, a cutting board, and a measuring tape. That’s it.
Simply measure, cut, peel and stick. I start with the full pieces in the front and than cut for the back pieces. I line all the drawers and cabinets in this way.
As you can see – my kitchen cabinets needed a do-over! This is the food storage cabinet before I purged and organized! Oh my! Yes, it has been this messy for a while!
I am glad to say that for the past month, we have been able to keep it organized.
Yes, this method does take a bit more time, effort, and money – but like I said – it is so very worth it! Cabinet shelves and drawers lined with the Peel and Stick Vinyl Liners are super durable and easy to clean! I simply love them. I am glad that I am finally getting this project done. I still have more cabinets to purge, line, and organize – but baby step by baby step I am getting it done.
Here are the tools you will need: Self adhesive tile, X-acto knife, and a right-angled straight edge.
August was suppose to be my month to organize my garage, but this is now being postponed until September. I am still working on the kitchen and my July calendar. With my routine getting back to a fairly predictable schedule with me starting back to school, I should be able to get back to my home home organization quest!
How is your home organization going? I’d love to hear!

So perfect! We just got fumigated and are having to take everything out to wash, I should do this…it’s not too late…thanks!
Perfect timing! Let me know how it goes.
I love the idea of using the peel & stick tiles….this is a project that will be in my future!
Dawnell, you are the most organized person I know and I have total kitchen envy when I visit! You would love having the tiles though. They are sturdy and beautiful. Cleans up super easy also.
Wow – I have never thought of using the adhesive tiles…that is genius! I feel like I’m always organizing my storage containers. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of yours. I’m so glad to see it’s not just me.
I’m constantly organizing everything! It seems that I cannot keep up with it. Maybe one day when the kids are gone and I have more time. 🙂
I had to chuckle when I saw your “before” photo of your plastic ware. That is what mine cabinet always looks like! Ugh, I need to get to organizing. Your cabinets look great.
Thanks, Cynthia. That is an honest before picture. Thankfully it has stayed organized for over a month now! Fingers crossed.
