My Favorite Scary Movies

Honestly I’m not crazy about scary movies – or at least not the scary movies along the lines of Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween 13. Yes, they are good for a scream or two (or three), but there are movies out there that keep my sitting on the edge of my seat, digging my fingers into my husband’s arm, and squirming all the way down to the bottom vertebrae of my spine. Those are the kind of scary movies that frighten me to no end. True horror movies that terrorize my mind for days and weeks after viewing.

With today being Halloween, it’s the perfect time to get out an old classic horror flick, pop some popcorn, snuggle up on the couch with my honey, and cling onto him for dear life. Of course the late night movie time happens after all the trick-or-treaters are back in their own homes – safe and sound.

The Exorcist – This is a classic from 1973. I was just a child and not allowed to watch it when it came out at the movies. So it was much later when I was able to find out what all the hype was about. A little girl possessed by demons with her spinning head, spewing vomit, and freaky voices and screams. A great scare!

My Favorite Scary Movies
The Shinning – Jack Nicholson is truly freaky scary in this one.  Running through the hotel, chopping through the door, trying to kill his family.  You also have all the paranormal activity going on. Very unnerving! Stephen King knows how to do horror.

My Favorite Scary Movies

Silence of the Lambs – I am a Jodi Foster fan. This story of Hannibal Lecter freaked me out for some time. A cannibalistic doctor locked up and being interviewed to help solve a crime brings a mix of crime solving and thriller all rolled up in one.

My Favorite Scary Movies

The Birds – A favorite Alfred Hitchcock movie of mine. Plus I grew up not to far from the quaint town of Bodega, the setting for this movie. You will never look at a flock of birds the same way again.

My Favorite Scary Movies

Carrie – A Supernatural horror film based on a novel by Stephen King, what more do I need to say? Oh yes, there is a very bloody ending. The 1976 version is the one I have seen. I do not know about the remake.

My Favorite Scary Movies

The Omen – I guess there is something about the devil and children that scare us. I know it scares me. I have never looked at the numbers 666 the same again.

My Favorite Scary Movies
The Panic Room – As I said, I am a Jodi Foster fan, but this story of a mother and daughter living through a home invasion had me double and triple checking my locks. Very suspenseful.

My Favorite Scary Movies

And there you have it. My list of scary movies, that I have loved over the years. Time to pop some popcorn and get your scream on!

Happy Halloween!
