As many of you know, this morning we experienced a total lunar eclipse and it was the first one seen here in our area (Northern California) since 1876. Yes, in our house that is a big deal! With our alarms set for 4:45 we were hoping for a treat. Lucky us, the moon did not disappoint! I suppose a more accurate statement would be that the weather cooperated. We awoke to beautiful clear skies. While we have street lights in front of our home, it is a short two block walk to some vineyards.
They are calling this a “super blue blood moon” because 1) super = very large (closer to Earth and 14% brighter than normal), 2) blue = 2nd full moon this month (it is NOT blue in color), 3) blood = red (it really was red in color due to the light effects associated with the eclipse). All of this together made the eclipse totally cool!

These photos were taken from the vineyard, away from the street lights with my husband’s camera. Enjoy!
I love the looks of this one!
And yes, there are a lot that look the same!
Yes, getting up early and seeing this beauty in the sky was totally worth it!
