It’s the holidays and in my world that means an abundance of food! food seems to be everywhere I turn – most of it in my very own kitchen. You have seen how many recipes I have been posting – well that is a direct reflection of all of the cooking and baking that has been going on in my kitchen. I am lucky, and my family is lucky.
I realize that not everyone has this luxury. In fact there are 49 million Americans including 16 million children that struggle with hunger at some point during the year. In the United States 1 in 6 people struggle with hunger. That is a lot of our fellow community members that are struggling with food insecurity. But you can make a difference! With food insecurity rates high, food pantries across the country face great demands this holiday season. To help meet the demand during this busy holiday season, food pantries will require more than just meals to help families in need to put food on their tables. In support of local food pantries across the country, this December, Walmart will empower customers and associates to take part in the Food Pantry Holiday Makeovers campaign and help award $1.5 million in grants across 75 local food pantries. From December 2 to December 12, customers and associates can visit www.walmart.com/holidaymakeover and cast one vote per day (a 24-hour time period) to help a participating food pantry. The 75 winning food pantries will each receive a $20,000 grant to help them purchase items like new kitchen and storage equipment, furniture, paint, or other supplies that are needed to continue providing fresh meals and exceptional service to local communities.
Meet James Young, the face behind this campaign…So how easy is this? Just check out www.walmart.com/holidaymakeover and cast one vote per day for your local food panty and help your own community. This campaign runs from Dec. 2 to Dec. 12. And as James said, be sure to check back on Dec. 15 to see the winning food pantries – there will be 75 of them!
I know I will be voting and then watching! You can read more about my quest to feed my family healthy and fresh food on a budget here:Hunger in America – Feeding a Family on a Budget. Remember to vote! You can make a difference! |
