I love setting a beautiful table, and I love using what I have. For this table I bought a boatload of mini pumpkins from school since my sixth graders were selling pumpkins that they had grown in the school garden. These then became the essence of my table.
No, I have not already set my table this year, these photos are from last year’s Thanksgiving day table, from before my blogging days.
The mini pumpkins also became the place card holders. I simple cut a slit in the side and tucked a place card into the slit.
I took a pad of watercolor paper, some tubes of gold paint, and some glitter. All supplies that I already had on hand. My kids, quite young at the time, then sponge and brush painted the paper with gold paint and water. They sprinkled some gold glitter on it, and I let them dry. Once they were dry I took it to a teacher supply store (this was before I was a teacher) and laminated them. At the time we made 20 placemats, and most of them can still be used today.I also have a set of laminated yellow paper placemats the the kids colored and added stickers to. They are a birthday party themed set of placemats. I love pulling out my kid made placemats, because they bring back some great memories! I am sure some people wonder why I use paper placemats alongside my china and silver – but to me it is a perfect combination!
