Sometimes a simple change can bring about healthier habits. What am I talking about? Simply adding fresh fruit and herbs to water, infusing the water with lots of fresh flavor, is helping me drink more water than ever before.
I admit, I am a coffee drinker to the detriment of water consumption. I have tried many ways to increase the amount of water that I drink every day. I use a cute little phone app called Plant Nanny to send me reminders, I keep a full water bottle on my desk to sip throughout the day, but really – these tricks have only helped me a little bit.
What has made the largest impact? Drinking infused water! The simple addition of just a bit of fresh fruit and herbs – giving the water a fun and fresh flavor – is helping me triple the amount of water I am drinking on a daily basis!
I think we can all agree that drinking water is a healthy habit. It is one of the many habits that I have tried to incorporate into a more proactive approach to wellness.
I wish I could take credit for this brilliant idea that caused a shift in my habits, but I can’t. What I am doing is thanking two of my colleagues at work that have taken it upon themselves to set up a large water infused dispenser everyday before the first bell of the school day rings. I affectionally call these two ladies the water fairies.
They are very creative with their flavors, and this in part depends on what we bring in to school for them to use. Below are some of my favorites.
Creative and Delicious Infused Water Flavors
- Cucumber Mint
- Lime Mint
- Watermelon Mint
- Orange Ginger
- Lemon and Lime
- Blood Orange
As you can tell we use a lot of mint. That is something that we grow in the school garden, so we pretty much have it available all the time. One morning I was asked, “What do you think of lime and mint together?” “Sounds like a mojito to me!” I replied. “Oh, yes – perfect!”
Another easy tip to keep it nice and cold, is the water fairies freeze red solo cups of ice each night so they have large ice “cubes” to add in the morning. The flavors and the icy cold temperature makes the water oh-so delicious and a perfect addition to my day.
Thank you, water fairies!
